 1) What is the meaning of Quasi?

Firstly, The word Quasi is taken from Latin, meaning “as if” or “almost”. which is used as a prefix, like quasi – government, quasi-cuisine, quasi- this, quasi-that and virtually quasi-anything.

Most references in dictionaries define quasi with the following words: -
  • Like, likeness
  • As if,
  • Resembling
  • Similar
  • Semi Possesses certain characteristics or attributes of… As if it were.
Let’s use quasi-Indian food as an example. Per definition this means that it is not the real thing, so to speak. So, it is not a genuine Indian dish, but is similar or has certain characteristics of an Indian dish. Maybe non-traditional ingredients have been added, or left out, or food prepared in a different manner. In other words one could say it was not the real thing, but close enough to bear a good resemblance.

2) What is the reason for naming "Quasi Framework" for your proposal.
Actually we derive the base idea from Mihaela Cocea’s Research on disengagement detection on online learning. She uses two online tutors namely iHelp and HTML Tutor. The Course content of HTML Tutor is written in german, and iHelp is an web-based learning system developed and deployed at the University of Saskatchewan. The Both systems are not available for public use. So we need a framework which is more similar and having more features than iHelp and HTML Tutor, Hence we develop a Framework which is almost similar to her proposal. That is the reason for naming QUASI Framework.

3) Is Quasi Framework is restricted to Bharathiar University ?

Need for Quasi Framework

Online Learning enables to deliver both learning and information dynamically. It allows to tap the knowledge of experts and non-experts and catapult those messages beyond classroom walls and into the workplace but it is more difficult to assess a learner’s motivation. In a traditional classroom, teachers know how to motivate their students and how to exploit this knowledge to adapt or optimize their instruction when a student shows signs of De-motivation. While in on-line learning, it is difficult to find whether the student is engaged or disengaged in their learning process, thus measuring disengagement in online learning is likely to help poor performance students. Hence we propose a new framework called Quasi Framework, which is trying to measure the significant relationship between disengagement level and their academic achievement.

Quasi Framework is an ongoing research on e-learning technology, The base idea of this research is "To find out the disengaged learners in  online learning automatically without interrupting their learning activities. To improve the efficiency of Quasi Framework, we divided it into several Platforms such as

1) Quasi Learning
2) Quasi Collaborate
3) Quasi Analysis
4) Quasi Assessment.

Quasi Learning.

Quasi Learning offers a free online course to students, and it helps the educators to find out the disengaged students in an effective manner.

Advantages of Quasi Learning

--> Improved open access to courses they registered.
--> Improved interactions between students and instructors.
--> Provision of tools to enable students to independently solve problems.
--> Special Interest has been provided to the slow learners and Rural based Students.
--> Direct and immediate feedback from teachers.

Quasi Collaborate

Quasi Collaborate offers the platform for educators to add their own e-learning courses.

Quasi Analysis

Quasi Analysis is a platform which finds out the disengagement students based on their learning abilities and their assessment process.

Quasi Assessment

Quasi Assessment is a platform used to determine the knowledge gained by students and to determine if adjustments need to be made to either the teaching or learning process.

Advantages of Quasi Assessment.

* Instant feedback to students.
* Greater flexibility with respect to location and timing.
* Improved reliability (machine marking is much more reliable than human marking).
* Improved impartiality (machine marking does not 'know' the students so does not favour nor make allowances for minor errors).
* Greater storage efficiency - tens of thousands of answer scripts can be stored on a server compared to the physical space required for paper scripts.
* Enhanced question styles which incorporate interactivity and multimedia.
